Luke grew up in a small Australian country town. He had big dreams of becoming a professional football (soccer) player. After years of hard work, dedication, and plenty of setbacks, he achieved my boyhood dream.
He travelled the world playing the game he loved until my body started to break down in my mid-twenties constantly. As a result, he spiralled into a dark battle with depression, fighting off many self-harming and suicidal thoughts. Suffering in silence for many years, without revealing what he was going through to anyone, he barely survived each day, and one of his coping mechanisms was binge eating. To escape the illness, he turned to extreme ultra-endurance sports and became instantly addicted! Initially, the extreme challenges satisfied his escapism.
After that, he has many athletic achievements in his career and one of the most challenging was created and completed the 2000km in 12 day Ultimate Triathlon from Morocco to Monaco. Also, successfully star of award-winning adventure documentaries on Amazon Prime Video "The Ultimate Triathlon & The 500 Man" and author of the highly-acclaimed autobiography "Chasing Extreme".
In the years following The Ultimate Triathlon, he spent a lot of time reflecting on my actions, speaking to others about his thoughts, and listening to his body. The wealth of knowledge he gained from having nearly two years "off" from any physical exertion gave me another lens through which to view the world and his life. He is always eager to learn every day. He is also highly passionate about teaching others what life has taught him and sharing this knowledge to help as many people as he can become the best versions of themselves every day.
He understands the importance of having a supportive community to be part of. Mental health needs to be addressed & supported due to the effects COVID-19 is having on people all over the country. He is planning a mental health fundraising community project later this year in the UK.
"What gets me through the dark days is knowing that I can make a difference in someone else's life if I apply myself." - Luke Tyburski
